Josip Novakovich: Finalist for the International Man Booker Prize

A few days ago, we found out that one of our favourite Montreal resident authors, Josip Novakovich, was nominated for the International Man Booker Prize! For those of you who don’t know, “The Man Booker International Prize recognizes one writer for his or her achievement in fiction. Worth £60,000 [or $95,000], the prize is awarded every two years to a living author who has published fiction either originally in English or whose work is generally available in translation in the English language.”

Josip, a Croatia-born (now) Canadian writer, was nominated for the prize among equally great authors like Lydia Davis and Vladimir Sorokin. Suffice to say, we’re excited; this prize has been awarded to great authors like Canada’s Alice Munro, Nigeria’s Chinua Achebe and Philip Roth of the United States. We’re rooting for you, Josip!

Josip, who has read at the shop in the past, is a fantastic writer, capable of great hilarity and great insight.
